If you’re an interior designer, chances are you’ve got at least one project that’s dragging on way longer than planned. And with every site visit, email, and call to the contractor or receiver, you can feel your profit margins shrinking.

Over the last several years, I’ve helped interior designers all over the world (!!!) create Design Day and Design Intensive services that let them:

  • Take back control of their schedules

  • Step away from unreliable contractors and ongoing project chaos

  • Focus on the creative work they love most

Their clients are loving it because they get high-impact, personalized design guidance (and quickly). Interior designers are loving it because they can offer a high-value design service without the ongoing back and forth that drains profits.

Why Interior Designers Offer Design Days

Design Days bridge the gap between a full-service project and a one-off consultation. They give clients:

  • One-on-one time with you, the expert

  • Design deliverables and implementation tips

  • The confidence to execute on their own

For interior designers, this means:

  • No long-term project management

  • More flexibility in your schedule

  • The ability to say “yes” to smaller projects or previous clients when there are gaps in your pipeline

  • A service that lets you focus on DESIGN ONLY!! Can you imagine?!

The Keys to a Successful Design Day

There’s no one “right” way to structure this service — the details depend on your market, style, and process. But in working with hundreds of designers to set these up, I’ve seen a few patterns:

1. Quick Turnaround for Deliverables
The faster you can deliver the final plan, the less opportunity for scope creep and extra access, and the more valuable the client sees the service.

→ Inside my Design Day Workshop, I walk you through exactly how to set timelines that keep clients excited and projects contained.

2. Clear Deliverables & Boundaries
Clients should know exactly what they’re getting and where the support ends.

→ My Avery Design Day Templates include the complete deliverables list, process outline, investment guide, welcome guide, and more. Everything you need to deliver this service profitably and with clear boundaries.

3. Limited Revisions
Revisions can double your workload. You have to be very strategic about how (and if) you offer revisions in this service.

→ In the Design Day Workshop, I’ll walk through how to handle revisions so clients are happy without endless tweaks.

4. Contract & Welcome Guide
Even small services need strong contracts, clear expectations, and an elevated client experience.

Why Design Days Outperform Consultations

Consultations can leave busy clients with a long list of to-dos but no clear plan, which means they may never implement your ideas.

A Design Day, by contrast, gives them a curated, ready-to-go design plan backed by your expertise.

Instead of wondering which green you meant for the pillow or second-guessing their purchases, they have specifics:

  • Exact paint colors

  • Exact hardware to order

  • Exact light fixtures to buy

Plus, because this service is at a higher price point, clients generally place more value on it.

The Type of Interior Designers Design Days are Good For

Design days are perfect for interior designers who:

  • Want to focus on design-only work without months of management

  • Are open to smaller projects or VIP client requests

  • Want a service that a team member can help deliver

Not ideal for designers who:

  • Need finished project photos for every job

  • Avoid setting firm boundaries

  • Take a long time to produce designs
